Artist rebuilds school's big snail

fairholme-snail.jpgA vandalised snail sculpture built by Bedfont schoolchildren out of willow branches has been lovingly restored by artists.

Pupils at Fairholme School, in Peacock Avenue, were left devastated after mindless vandals wrecked the art work during the Easter holidays.

The snail had been designed and built by the youngsters as a shelter and quiet space after they were inspired by a pond-dipping visit to the London Wetland Centre.

But the artist originally employed by environmental charity Green Corridor to help the children returned to the school last Thursday to mend the unsafe structure.

Head teacher Ken Noakes said: "They were devastated to see their creation wrecked. We are very grateful to Green Corridor."

The school will also be funding the artist to return in the autumn to replant some live willow into the structure with the children.
