"There's never been a good record of the bombs that fell in Feltham," said Mr Marshall. "So in November 2006 we decided to fill in the gaps by visiting the national archives. It took a lot of painstaking work but we now have detailed maps and information detailing all the bombs and casualties they caused."

Long-time residents of the town may remember some of the most devastating incidents which will be covered in the book, such as the bombing of Ellington Road in October 1943 that took out the whole street, completely destroying houses 33-47 and killing a family of five.

The book will also mention a V1 bomb which landed on an air raid shelter in Hanworth, on what is now the Oriel Estate.The tragedy on August 20, 1944, killed 10 people outright, with another four later dying of their injuries.

The planned book will be published by Colin Clegg, of Feltham Press, who grew up in the area but is now based near the New Forest.
