Southfields_horses.jpgAn event organised by a Bedfont police constable to help reassure the public and foster greater community relations has been hailed a great success.

PC Sean McMahon, 36, was joined by colleagues at the Southfields Community Centre, in Southville Road, Bedfont, on Tuesday, August 19.

Along with Noveen Philips, who runs the centre for youngsters aged between 11 and 17, PC McMahon had arranged a community day, bringing police horses, incident response vehicles and even riot buses.

New home for orphan piglets

piglets.jpgOrphaned and less than four weeks old, piglets Billy, Bobby, Bacon, Benty and Bastian, are the latest addition to Hounslow Urban Farm.

The piglets, who arrived at the farm when they were a day old, were donated by a local pig farmer when their mother died after the birth.

The firemen at Feltham station are lining up their sponges and soapy water this week as they prepare for their big charity carwash on Sunday.

So if your car or van is looking a little grimy then head over to the station, in Fagg's Road, to help the boys from Blue Watch raise cash for Shooting Star Children's Hospice, in Hampton.

From 10am-4pm on Sunday, August 24, customers can get themselves a squeaky clean car for the bargain price of just £5.

Hunt for a Feltham star

strike.jpgFame-hungry teenagers from Feltham will hit the studio for their first 'Fame Academy' sessions at The Centre today.

The free drama workshop, run by professionals and available to anyone aged 12-18, is the first of a series of classes at Feltham library community rooms, located at The Centre, Feltham.

And if you fancy a taste of the showbiz lifestyle then it's not to late to join the fun.

Health chiefs have urged residents to have their say on how medical services across the borough are run by joining a new watchdog.

Hounslow's Local Involvement Network, LINk, met for the first time last month, but it's not too late to get involved.

Country Park home to rare bat

batday11.jpgEcologists are celebrating the discovery of an incredibly rare bat in the grounds of Bedfont Lakes Country Park.

During a survey, six species of bat were recorded including the unusual Leisler's bat, which is in danger of becoming a threatened species world wide.

The Common, Soprano Pipistrelles, Noctule, Narthuslus' Pipistrelle and Daubenton's bats were also spotted by staff using a special radio kit.

Birds flock to Bedfont Lakes

Common-Tern-chick-2-(2).jpgRangers at Bedfont Lakes Park are delighted with the booming bird population as the numbers of common terns recorded its highest level for four years.

This summer the common tern population has improved for the first time in four years with 16 pairs hatching out 39 chicks.

Common terns, also known as sea swallows, are small silvery-grey and white seabirds with long tails. Countryside Rangers have been encouraging them onto the site by providing floating rafts for them, which replicate their natural habitat and provide a safe place for the birds to lay their eggs.
