Bedfont man joins Hugh Grant for charity campaign

marie-curie.jpgA lucky Bedfont man got to meet film star Hugh Grant as part of an appeal to encourage more people to volunteer for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Hollywood A-lister met up with several west London volunteers, including John Potter, of New Road, to appeal for anyone who has a couple of hours to spare to take to the UK streets to collect for the charity.

Last year, Marie Curie Cancer Care cared for 43 patients in the borough of Hounslow and provided just under 2,000 hours of nursing care in the homes of terminally ill people.

The Bridget Jones star said: "I know from my own experience just how important it is for terminally ill people to have the choice to be cared for at home.

"When my mother died of cancer she wanted - as most of us would - to spend her last days in the familiar surroundings of her own home. The care provided by Marie Curie Nurses made this possible."

Every £20 raised from the Great Daffodil Appeal will provide an hour of free Marie Curie nursing care.

Mr Potter, 79, who has suffered from Prostate Cancer, said: "I am too old to be star struck by celebrities, but Hugh seemed perfectly nice I suppose.

"As with most human beings, I really feel for those with cancer and think it is important to help people."

I have made it through some of your blog and so far so good. I'm still a little lost on the subject, but plan on saving it to my favorites and coming back. I have found several other sites and am trying to consolidate them all so i can compile a list of resources. I will come back and post my results in the comments next time
