Newly merged Bedfont School opens for learning
PUPILS have celebrated the opening of a new primary school in Bedfont this week.
The former Bedfont Infant School and Bedfont Junior School merged over the Christmas holidays to become one 450-child school.
There has been a school at the site in Hatton Road for 162 years but Tuesday marked the end of an 18-month amalgamation process and the formation of Bedfont Primary School.
A special assembly was held to explain to children the changes and pupils took part in circus workshops and tile painting classes for a commemorative wall display. Each child was also tasked with learning the names of at least 10 children in other years of the school.
Head teacher Ann Broughton said: "It will be much better for the children to be in one school from reception to year 6. When you have two different schools you operate with different policies and a different ethos - that will no longer be a problem.
"The children seem to be very excited by it. They have all come back to school very positive about it."
